On November 4, 2011 at approximately 3:50pm, officers of the Galveston Police Department responded to a report of a major accident in the 1200 block of 26th Street.
Upon arrival, officer's observed a motorcycle (2003 Yamaha) had struck a school bus, broadside, with the cyclist pinned under the bus.  Galveston EMS and the Galveston Fire Department responded to the scene.  The driver and sole occupant, identified as Guy Dale Stratton (51 yoa, of Houston, Tx), of the motorcycle was transported to the John Sealy Emergency Room (JSER) at UTMB. As of 12:00pm on November 5th, Stratton is in ICU in critical condition.
The initial accident investigation shows the cause to be a failure of the motorcycle to stop at a stop sign.  It is unknown if intoxication/alcohol was a factor. Stratton was not wearing a helmet.

On November 4, 2011 at approximately 10:00pm, officers of the Galveston Police Department responded to the 7800 block of I-45 North in reference to a motorcycle accident.  Upon arrival, officers found the two occupants of the motorcycle (2011 Harley Davidson) in the roadway and deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
Witnesses stated the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed on the feeder road and struck the curb, causing the driver to lose control.  The occupants, a 34 year old male and a 27 year old female, who appear to be husband and wife, were not wearing helmets.  Next of kin notification pending.
The Galveston Police Department requests everyone attending the event to be careful and aware.  Take extra time at intersections and in your travels, be patient with our visitors and guests who are trying to find their way around the Island.
