PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A Pittsburgh police officer was shot during a gunfight following a traffic stop early Sunday morning in East Liberty.
Authorities said officers from zone five stopped a vehicle at the Port Authority East Busway parking lot along Fifth Avenue near McPherson Boulevard, and 18-year-old Dante Bonner, of Homewood, got out and started to run.
Police said Bonner turned and shot a pursuing officer in both legs. Officers returned fire and shot Bonner, who was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in critical condition, police said.
The officer, who is a two-year veteran, was hospitalized in stable condition.
